Car accidents: Woman badly hurt in Toronto

A suspected hit-and-run accident in Toronto's downtown east has left one woman critically injured, according to local police. Ontario Forensic Identification Services often work with collision reconstruction officers to determine the cause of car accidents, and this was the case here as well. So far, they have not released a description of the vehicle they believe caused the crash.

According to spokespeople for Toronto's 51 Division, police responded to a call suggesting that a hit-and-run collision may have occurred at approximately 4:07 a.m. the morning of Aug. 15. Police believe the woman was already in the roadway when the accident occurred. One witness reportedly told police the woman was already lying down in the roadway when she was hit.

Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. Police are now attempting to obtain security footage and further witness statements to help ascertain the details of the accident and hopefully to bring the driver to justice. During the course of the investigation, the Toronto Transit Commission reportedly rerouted streetcars and buses to facilitate police and reconstruction efforts. Police say a description of the vehicle involved should be forthcoming.

There are a number of issues that will need to be addressed with regard to this serious accident. The victim (or her family) will likely benefit by speaking with a personal injury attorney to gain an understanding of her rights concerning car accidents of this nature. Should see survive her injuries, the woman may be able to provide information to clear up exactly what occurred. Depending upon a review of the gathered evidence, she may have grounds for legal recourse against the driver who fled the accident scene. An Ontario lawyer can help get answers to lingering questions and help pursue applicable claims for monetary relief.
