Left-turn accidents have special considerations

When you are injured in a car accident and decide to seek compensation for the injuries you suffered, who was at fault for the accident is one factor that will come into the picture. When a left turn is a component of the accident, a point in the Insurance Act of 1990 comes into the picture.

In this act, it is noted that all left turns into traffic are against insurance company policy if the turn leads to an accident. This means that a driver who is in the midst of a left turn and involved in an accident will more than likely be found to be at fault – either partially or fully – for the accident.

When drivers are deciding on their actions behind the wheel, they must ensure that they take the safe routes. This means making sure that the way is clear if they have to turn left at a stop sign or traffic light. In Canada, about half of the accidents that occur at intersections involve someone making a left turn.

Seeking compensation for a left-turn accident can sometimes involve splitting the fault. When this occurs, the adjuster looks at the facts of the accident and determines how much fault each party had in the accident.

This means that you have to be able to prove what caused your accident and what happened at the time of the accident. How you show the cause of the case and present the facts as you know them can have an impact on the ultimate outcome of your claim for compensation.
