Violent 4-vehicle crash in Windsor brings drunk driving arrest

A violent accident among four vehicles in Windsor miraculously left those involved with only minor injuries. The crash occurred on Jan. 23 near the 7th Concession on County Road 42. It involved a pickup truck, an SUV, a commercial van and a minivan.

Three of the people in the vehicles were taken to the hospital, while three others received medical treatment at the scene. According to one witness, an elderly couple had to be extracted from their SUV by first responders using the Jaws of Life.

That same witness postulated that a man who was in the pickup truck might have survived only because he was ejected in the crash. Nothing was left of the truck but a crumpled pile of metal. All of the vehicles sustained serious damage.

Police have arrested a man in connection with the crash for alleged drunk driving. They have not released any information about him, so it's not known which vehicle he was driving. They are still investigating the crash. An accident reconstruction team kept the road closed in both directions into the following day.

While all involved in this accident were lucky to escape without serious injuries, that sadly is often not the case when trucks and other large vehicles are involved. Many people throughout Canada suffer severe and even fatal injuries in these crashes every year.

When multiple vehicles are involved in a crash, it can take police and other investigators time to determine who was at fault so that victims know who can be held liable for damages. If a commercial vehicle driver is at fault, the company for whom he or she was working may be held liable in addition to the driver. It may be wise to seek legal advice to help determine how to proceed.
